Wolves have been absent in the Blueridge Mountains for fifty years. They were all hunted to extinction from the area. Recently a Wolf Conservation group, along with the government, has released wolves from a local Wolf Sanctuary onto two mountains located in the Pisgah National Forest. They placed gray wolves on Cedar Mountain and red wolves on Grandfather Mountain. Now the wolf packs are free to carry out their lives and become the next generation of wolves in the Blueridge Mountains.
